History of Ekiti people

Ekiti state is one of the state of federal republic of Nigeria, Ekiti state was taken out from the old Ondo state.


The Ekitis whose their forefathers migrate from Ile Ife, the Ekitis which form one of the largest ethic group in Yoruba land.Ekitis are culturally homogenous and this homogeneous nature confer on the Ekitis some uniqueness among the state of the federation, The Ekitis speaks a dialect of Yoruba language known as Ekiti , Most ekiti nearly speaks the Same dialect, but there is slight differences noticeable in the Ekiti dialect of Yoruba language spoken by the people of Ekiti.


The slight differences in dialect is what influence and informed the location of each town, especially those at the border town to other states. For example, the Ado local government area of Ekiti do not speak exactly the same dialect with the people of of Ijero , what the people of ikole area speaks is different from what people of Ikare speaks. Another uniqueness of ekiti people is that where ever is your own part of the state, you can easily know and understand it very well when the other Ekiti man speaks, even with the different in dialects.


The people of ekiti settle in a nucleus urban patterns, Ekiti has more than 127 large and small ancient and modern town which are all located on the hill and valley, it is from this hill and valley that the State takes his name "OKITI" which means HILL. In addition all the town in ekiti take a common suffix , "EKITI"

The people of Ekiti are hard-working, very articulate, upright and studious . Ekiti women are engaging in trading while men are predominantly farmer.

The people of ekiti are mostly Christian and Muslim, while few are still practicing traditional religionLastly Ekiti people are well educated, you rarely see a family in ekiti without a professor , there are many Tourism and wonder streams and rivers in ekiti but it will be of another article, watch out.
